Twenty-one little stories about the daily life of a wonderful little family, seen through the eyes of 5-year-old Petra. They go shopping, sledding, to the beach, duck-feeding, do household repairs, paint Easter eggs, and have firework parties. Funny mishaps keep happening to both Petra and her mummy and daddy. An insect gets into her daddy’s trousers while picking mushrooms in the forest, and in his furious attempts to get it out, he squashes all of the mushrooms they picked. The result of trying out washable hair dye is the non-washable Pippi hairstyle. It’s fun to have the kinds of parents, for whom seeing a sofa-spring that has been broken from being jumped on is enough reason to start thinking about buying a trampoline. Yet sometimes, you can’t understand adults at all. Why does daddy cry out "Well, that's just great!” when Petra’s glass of milk happens to fall over, and who is supposed to believe her uncle's claim that playing basketball makes an athlete grow seven feet tall?
